Old Kempton Distillery, located in the historic Dysart House in Kempton, TAS, has been producing a variety of spirits, including single malt whisky, gin, liqueurs, and special releases, since November 2015. All of their products are made using 100% Tasmanian ingredients.
Visitors can embark on a fully guided tour of the distillery, which begins with a short history of Dysart House and an overview of the distillation process. The tour then takes guests behind the scenes, including a visit to the distillery and bond store. The bond store is home to maturing whisky and barrels of all shapes and sizes, and is said to have its fair share of ghost stories. Each tour is unique, providing a special opportunity to see the day-to-day operations of a working distillery.
The tour concludes in the Cask Lounge, located in the grand coaching inn that houses the Old Kempton cellar door. The Cask Lounge is home to the distillery's cask wall and botanic library. Guests can enjoy a guided tasting of a variety of Old Kempton Distillery products.
In addition to the tour and tasting, Old Kempton Distillery offers lunch daily, featuring local Tasmanian produce antipasto platters, Devonshire tea, and daily specials. The cafè is open from 10am to 4pm and also offers cocktails, coffee, and other tastings.
